All 42 Filipino seafarers aboard foreign vessels that faced missile attacks in the Red Sea are confirmed safe, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced.
Despite the attacks on six ships since April 25, no injuries were reported among the Filipino crew, and the vessels sustained only minor damage, according to Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac.
The DMW has urged ship owners to avoid traversing the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, designated as “war-like zones,” and has implemented measures to allow seafarers to refuse sailing in high-risk areas.
Additionally, President Marcos emphasized the need for stronger protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) during the Labor Day celebration, directing efforts to safeguard their welfare and promote ethical recruitment processes.
