President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed retired police general Isagani Nerez as the new chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed on Tuesday.
Nerez replaced retired police general Moro Virgilio Lazo, who led the agency since October 2022.
Before his appointment, Nerez served as undersecretary for Police Affairs and Presidential Adviser on Military and Police Affairs.
A lawyer and a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1984, he previously headed key units in the Philippine National Police, including the Special Action Force and Anti-Kidnapping Group.
Malacañang has yet to release a copy of his appointment paper.
