Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that the search for the bodies of missing cockfighting enthusiasts, allegedly dumped in Taal Lake, may start this week.
The operation will initially focus on a fishpond lease reportedly connected to one of the suspects.
Remulla is considering enlisting the Philippine Coast Guard and Navy for technical diving, following whistleblower Julie “Totoy” Patidongan’s claim that the men were killed and dumped in the lake after cheating in cockfights.
Remulla also revealed he has yet to hear back from Japan regarding his request for assistance in the investigation.
Patidongan recently accused gaming tycoon Atong Ang and three others of masterminding the disappearances — claims Ang has denied.
