QUIBOLOY SUBPOENAED BY SENATE AND HOUSE IN RESPONSE TO ALLEGED ABUSE

The House of Representatives and the Senate have both issued subpoenas to Apollo Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), in connection with investigations into Swara Sug Media Corporation, the operator of Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI).

In a letter signed by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and House Committee on Legislative Franchises chairperson Gus Tambunting, Quiboloy was directed to appear before a congressional inquiry on March 12, 2024. Failure to comply may result in the Committee resorting to the power of contempt.

Lawmaker Rodge Gutierrez raised concerns about SMNI’s alleged failure to deliver truthful and balanced reporting, citing complaints from various organizations. The franchise grantee, Swara Sug, is obligated not to disseminate false information, as per Republic Act 11422.

Furthermore, Gutierrez highlighted SMNI’s corporate transitions without congressional approval, including Quiboloy’s transfer of controlling stake to Bro. Marlon Acobo in 2023.

Meanwhile, Senator Risa Hontiveros announced during a Senate investigation into human trafficking and abuse allegations within Quiboloy’s religious group that a subpoena had been issued against him. Signed by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, the subpoena requires Quiboloy to testify under oath on the matter.
