The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Calabarzon issued a show-cause order against a Quezon province mayor and several employees for allegedly riding motorcycles without standard protective helmets.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao ordered an investigation after videos and photos of the incident went viral on social media.
The involved individuals were directed to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division in Quezon City on October 1 to explain the alleged violations.
They must submit sworn statements and supporting documents to show why they should not face charges under the motorcycle helmet law and possible suspension or revocation of their driver’s licenses.
Lacanilao said government employees should lead by example in following traffic laws.
