PROPOSED DIGITAL CONNECTIVITY LAW RAISES SECURITY CONCERNS

Consumer groups and geopolitical experts have raised concerns over the proposed Konektadong Pinoy Act, warning that its deregulation of the radio frequency spectrum could expose the country to cyber threats, espionage, and scams.

Stratbase Institute president Dindo Manhit cautioned that removing the legislative franchise requirement for radio frequencies could weaken safeguards and allow foreign entities to exploit the country’s digital infrastructure.

Consumer advocate Patrick Climaco also warned that easing restrictions for new telecommunications players could lead to a rise in online scams and fraudulent services.

CitizenWatch Philippines’ Orlando Oxales stressed that without strict oversight, vulnerable communities with low digital literacy could be at greater risk.

The Philippine Chamber of Telecommunications Operators (PCTO) strongly opposed the bill, calling it unconstitutional and warning that it could undermine fair competition and investment in the sector.
