The Commission on Elections (Comelec) anticipates that around half a million candidates will vie for positions in the simultaneous midterm and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections scheduled for May 12, 2025.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia noted that 18,271 national and local positions will be contested, including 12 Senate seats, 63 party-list slots, 254 congressional seats, and various local roles.
The BARMM elections will feature 80 parliamentary seats divided among party, district, and sectoral representatives.
The filing period for certificates of candidacy will run from October 1 to 8, with specific procedures for venue transfers.
The printing of 73 million ballots begins in December, with a separate process for the 3 million BARMM ballots, ensuring high-quality standards through advanced printing technology provided by Miru Systems.
