Despite an executive order banning political activities during the Dinagyang Festival, politicians attended the event as special guests of Mayor Jerry Treñas.
On January 26, Treñas acknowledged the presence of several politicians, including Senators Imee Marcos, Bong Revilla, and Risa Hontiveros, along with senatorial candidates Bam Aquino, Kiko Pangilinan, and others.
In Executive Order No. 167, Treñas emphasized that the festival, which honors the Santo Niño, should remain free from political influence, especially with the upcoming 2025 elections.
He reiterated that political campaigns should not be associated with the celebration, as it would undermine its sacred purpose.
Despite this directive, many politicians still participated in the festivities, sparking discussions on the intersection of politics and cultural events.
