PNP SET TO FILE CHARGES AGAINST DUTERTE’S COMMON-LAW WIFE FOR ASSAULT ON POLICEWOMAN

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will file a direct assault complaint against Honeylet Avanceña, the common-law wife of former President Rodrigo Duterte, for allegedly hitting a policewoman during Duterte’s arrest at Villamor Air Base on March 11.

According to PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, Avanceña struck the officer on the head with a cellphone, causing a significant bump, and the officer was taken to the hospital.

The altercation occurred as police were moving Avanceña and her daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, away while executing the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant for Duterte.

Avanceña faces potential imprisonment under Article 148 of the Revised Penal Code if convicted of direct assault.

Despite the incident, PNP-CIDG Chief Maj. Gen. Nicholas Torre, who was also involved, shrugged off insults from Kitty, saying he was used to such behavior.
