PLDT PUSHES ONLINE RESTRICTIONS AGAINST VIOLENT GROOMING SITES

PLDT is urging the government to allow telecommunications providers to block websites promoting violence without prior regulatory approval, subject to clear guidelines.

PLDT COO Menardo Jimenez Jr. said the authority could help improve online safety and prevent copycat violence.

Meanwhile, Akbayan Youth opposed an outright social media ban for those below 18, instead calling for stronger privacy protections, age verification, parental controls, and platform accountability.

The discussions come amid heightened concerns over threats and violence in schools following recent shooting incidents and online threats.

Authorities are investigating several reported school threats, while officials continue to strengthen safety measures and provide psychological support to students.
