PLDT LAUNCHES SOVEREIGN CLOUD TO PROTECT GOVERNMENT DATA

PLDT, a prominent telecommunications company in the Philippines, has introduced a groundbreaking solution to address the recent surge in cyberattacks targeting government agencies.

In response to the escalating threat, PLDT has proposed the utilization of its highly secure data centers to safeguard critical government data.

During the Philippine Digital Convention 2023, ePLDT President and CEO Victor Genuino announced the launch of the country’s first-ever sovereign cloud.

This localized and secure cloud infrastructure is specifically designed to house sensitive information, including National ID records and national defense records. Genuino emphasized that the primary offering of their sovereign cloud is “peace of mind.”

PLDT is currently engaged in discussions with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to identify potential government agencies that could benefit from migrating their data to the sovereign cloud. As the largest data center operator in the country, ePLDT has implemented an air gap mode in the design of their sovereign cloud.
This means that the cloud infrastructure remains disconnected from the public internet, mitigating the risks associated with breaches that commonly occur through public internet connections.

Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan Uy, a guest speaker at the technology conference, expressed his appreciation for the launch of the country’s sovereign cloud.

Uy acknowledged PLDT’s dedication and expertise in advancing the local ICT industry, making them an ideal partner to spearhead this crucial initiative.
