Amid the ongoing debate over the transfer of PhilHealth funds for economic activities, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III questioned the executive branch’s focus on PhilHealth when other government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) could provide funding for development.
Pimentel criticized the decision to target PhilHealth funds, emphasizing their importance in ensuring the health of Filipinos and likening them to the funds of the GSIS and SSS.
He urged PhilHealth officials and the Department of Finance to clarify the situation.
Additionally, Pimentel and other parties have asked the Supreme Court to prevent the transfer of PHP 89.9 billion in excess PhilHealth funds to the national treasury.
