Senator Pia Cayetano has called for a Senate investigation into the rising number of social media posts offering babies for sale, a move prompted by alarming reports from the Commission on Human Rights.
She filed a resolution urging a thorough probe into the illegal online trade of children, denouncing the commodification of minors as a grave violation of their rights and Philippine law.
Cayetano emphasized the need for law enforcement and social agencies to investigate possible involvement of organized syndicates and address systemic loopholes enabling this crime.
She also pushed for stricter enforcement of existing laws against human trafficking and adoption fraud, alongside improving adoption procedures and social services for vulnerable families.
Highlighting the urgency of community education and digital monitoring, Cayetano pledged to advocate for stronger legal protections for Filipino children against abuse and exploitation.
