The Philippine Air Force (PAF) reiterated its need for more multi-role fighter jets even as it prepares to receive 12 FA-50 light combat aircraft from South Korea, valued at $700 million and set for delivery until 2030.
PAF spokesperson Col. Ma Consuelo Castillo said additional jets are necessary to patrol the country’s vast archipelagic territory.
Alongside aircraft acquisition, the PAF is expanding and upgrading its pilot training programs to ensure readiness for the new air assets.
The incoming FA-50s will feature extended range and improved firepower compared to current models.
Meanwhile, the U.S. has approved a potential $5.58 billion F-16 sale to the Philippines, with Lockheed Martin expressing readiness to support the country’s defense modernization.
