The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is working on PHP2.65 billion worth of investments to boost the local halal sector, according to Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal, Program Manager for the Halal Industry Development Program.

The investments, committed for 2023 and 2024, include a PHP200-billion halal-friendly hotel in Clark, a PHP350-million poultry facility in Tarlac, and PHP200 million for halal certification of 500 MSMEs.

Additionally, PHP100 million will support SMEs in exporting and participating in trade missions.

Guiapal also reported PHP32.8 million in halal goods sales so far this year and aims for a 20-percent growth in halal sales in 2024.

The DTI’s strategic plan includes doubling the number of halal-certified products by 2028, increasing the country’s share in the global halal market, and attracting PHP230 billion in investments to create 120,000 jobs.
