The Philippines and its security allies, including the United States and Australia, are preparing to counter any attempts by China to impose an Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) or restrict flight freedom over the South China Sea.
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. expressed concern over China’s growing aggression in the region, calling it the greatest threat to national and global security, as the South China Sea is a vital trade route.
He warned that any attempt by China to impose an exclusion zone would be a serious violation of international law, and the Philippines would respond accordingly.
Tensions in the area have escalated recently with dangerous confrontations between Chinese military aircraft and those from the Philippines, the US, and Australia.
Teodoro emphasized that a coalition of like-minded countries could unite to confront China’s actions, as their aggressive stance threatens regional stability.
