PHILIPPINE NAVY MONITORS CHINESE RESEARCH SHIPS NEAR EEZ

The Philippine Navy confirmed the presence of two Chinese research ships, Xiang Yang Hong 03 and Zhang Jian, in the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) near the Philippine Rise.

The vessels were moving southbound to avoid Typhoon Marce and posed no immediate threat, according to the military.

One ship was spotted 350 nautical miles south of the Philippine Rise, while the other was 120 nautical miles east of Catanduanes.

The Navy continues to monitor the situation but assured there was no cause for alarm.

The ships are currently too far away for direct communication.
