In a recent development, the Korean government has granted approval for the export of Philippine-grown Hass avocados to South Korea, as confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday.
The DFA disclosed that the Philippines has successfully met all the necessary requirements for the regulatory process, culminating in the issuance of Official Notification 2023-33 by the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs on September 8.
The upcoming shipments of fresh Hass avocados from the Philippines are anticipated to originate from the orchards and packing facilities of Dole Philippines situated in Davao, Bukidnon, and South Cotabato.
Hass avocados are characterized by their dark green hue and distinctive bumpy skin. When fully ripe, they transform into a dark purplish-black shade and yield to gentle pressure.
This approval for export to Korea comes on the heels of a series of inspections conducted last February, signifying a significant milestone for Philippine avocado growers and exporters.
