PH, US DEEPEN DEFENSE TIES TO COUNTER SOUTH CHINA SEA THREATS

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Philippines-US defense cooperation and reestablishing deterrence in the South China Sea.

In their first phone call, both officials discussed enhancing military capabilities, expanding joint exercises, and working with like-minded partners.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard shadowed two Chinese vessels that entered the country’s exclusive economic zone, prompting renewed concerns over maritime security.

The AFP also conducted successful multilateral naval drills with the US, Japan, and Australia to enhance regional defense cooperation.

President Marcos maintained that while the Philippines cannot drive out foreign ships, it will continue asserting its territorial rights in the West Philippine Sea.
