Timor-Leste has sought assistance from the Philippines to enhance its disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) capabilities.
During a visit to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Manila, Timor-Leste’s ambassador-designate Marciano Octavio Garcia Da Silva expressed interest in learning from the Philippines’ experience managing natural calamities.
The discussions emphasized establishing early warning systems and the four pillars of DRRM: prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Filipino officials commended Timor-Leste’s commitment to improving its disaster management strategies, especially as it prepares to join the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management.
The visit followed Timor-Leste’s participation in the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.
