National Security Adviser Eduardo Año hailed the newly signed defense cooperation agreement between the Philippines and Germany as a major milestone in strengthening the country’s national defense and security.
Signed by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, the pact expands on a 1974 agreement and now includes areas such as cybersecurity, logistics, defense armament, and UN peacekeeping.
Año emphasized that the partnership reflects shared commitments to regional and global stability, especially amid tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
He noted that Germany’s support reinforces the international community’s backing of the Philippines’ maritime rights under international law.
The Philippines, he added, is committed to fully implementing the agreement through ongoing cooperation and dialogue.
