The Philippines and Cyprus signed an agreement recognizing each other’s maritime qualifications, opening more job opportunities for Filipino seafarers aboard Cyprus-flagged vessels.
The MOU covers Certificates of Competency and Certificates of Proficiency issued under the STCW Convention.
Qualified Filipino seafarers can now secure the required recognition endorsements to work on Cyprus-flagged ships, while Cypriot seafarers can do the same on Philippine-flagged vessels.
Cyprus noted that more than 15,000 Filipinos were working aboard its flagged ships last year.
The agreement also strengthens cooperation between the two countries on certificate verification, information sharing, and maritime standards.
