PDEA WHISTLEBLOWER GUILTY OF PERJURY CHARGES

Former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Jonathan Morales has been sentenced to four months in prison for perjury by a San Fernando, Pampanga court.

Morales was found guilty of providing false testimony against two suspected drug traffickers, Wen Chen Miao and Albert Co Chua, during a 2011 trial, claiming their drug activities were legitimate.

The court determined Morales’s recantation and admission of evidence planting were unreliable and unsupported by proof of coercion.

Morales had also previously claimed to have signed a leaked PDEA report implicating President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in drug activities.

In May, Morales was cited in contempt by the Senate Committee on Public Order for dishonesty during its hearings.
