President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered an increase in the student discount on fares for LRT Lines 1 and 2 and MRT-3 from 20% to 50%, effective June 20 until 2028.
The new discount applies to all students, including those in postgraduate studies, every day of the week, including holidays.
Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that the measure aims to ease the financial burden on students and their families.
The increased discount is expected to help parents allocate savings towards other school expenses, such as projects and allowances.
LRT-2, which serves the University Belt area in Manila, will directly benefit many college and university students.
