President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Undersecretary Patricia Yvonne Caunan as the new administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), replacing Arnell Ignacio.
Caunan, a seasoned lawyer and advocate for migrant workers’ rights, previously served as DMW Undersecretary for Policy and International Cooperation, where she helped broker 15 bilateral labor migration agreements to protect overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
She took her oath of office before DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, who praised her legal expertise and commitment to OFWs.
Caunan expressed gratitude for the trust given to her and highlighted the integrity and dedication of her mentors in government.
OWWA, under the DMW, manages welfare programs and services that address the needs of OFWs and their families.
