A passenger was apprehended by the Aviation Security Group after joking to the cabin crew about carrying a bomb in his carry-on bag while boarding a domestic flight.
The 40-year-old traveler’s remark was taken seriously, prompting the crew to notify the pilot and request security assistance.
Authorities conducted a thorough aircraft inspection before allowing the plane to depart.
This incident follows a similar case on May 25, when another passenger was detained for making a bomb joke that delayed a Cebu-bound flight.
Aviation Security Group director Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia warned that bomb-related jokes endanger security, disrupt operations, and are punishable under Presidential Decree 1727.
