PALACE SUPPORTS MARCOS AMID BACKLASH OVER BIRTHDAY EVENT

Malacañang on Sunday defended President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. over a viral video showing him singing at a post-birthday celebration for First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos continued monitoring the flood situation and directed government agencies to assist affected communities despite spending time with his family.

The video was recorded on Aug. 26, not Aug. 29, and was posted online two days later.

Critics, including supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte, criticized the President for singing while parts of Luzon were experiencing severe flooding.

Monsoon rains and several weather disturbances have caused floods and landslides that left more than 30 people dead this month.
