The Office of the President is reviewing a bill that seeks to reinstate the National Food Authority’s (NFA) power to sell rice in the market, aiming to address rising prices and supply issues.
Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil said the measure is being thoroughly evaluated to ensure it benefits consumers while protecting the livelihoods of local farmers.
Proponents argue that empowering the NFA to sell rice will stabilize prices and improve food security, while critics caution against potential market disruptions.
The proposal comes amid continued efforts to ensure affordable rice for Filipino households.
Malacañang emphasized that any decision will prioritize the interests of both farmers and consumers.
