Malacañang reassured China on Wednesday that the Philippine government is not targeting any nationality following Beijing’s travel advisory warning its citizens about possible harassment.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed the advisory, calling it a “normal consular function” and emphasizing that all foreign nationals are welcome in the Philippines, except those involved in illegal activities.
Castro suggested that the advisory may be linked to the Philippine government’s crackdown on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), many of which involve Chinese nationals.
She also stated that the Department of Foreign Affairs is open to discussing the issue with China.
The Palace official reiterated that no specific nationality is being targeted for harassment by local authorities.
