Malacañang defended the proposed P58.53-billion Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) for 2027 against claims that it amounts to a “presidential pork barrel.”
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said LGSF releases to local governments are subject to eligibility requirements, evaluation, monitoring, and audits.
Caloocan 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice has questioned the executive’s discretion over the fund and said he may challenge it before the Supreme Court.
Castro also cited Naga Mayor Leni Robredo’s P500-million request for the rehabilitation of the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum as an example of national government support for local projects.
She further cited a 2019 Supreme Court ruling that upheld the constitutionality of an earlier LGSF appropriation.
