The Philippines may experience an increase in tropical cyclones and heavier rainfall in the last quarter of 2025 due to the possible onset of La Niña conditions, according to PAGASA.
Although the expected La Niña is likely to be weak and short-lived, it can still significantly impact weather patterns, including more cyclones forming closer to land and intensifying near landfall.
PAGASA forecasts between seven and 13 tropical cyclones entering or forming within the Philippine Area of Responsibility from September to December.
Additionally, heavy rains could result from low-pressure areas and other weather systems interacting with La Niña, raising the risk of flooding and landslides.
Rainfall is expected to be above normal in many areas through December, with variable conditions forecast for early 2026.
