The Bureau of Internal Revenue has secured the Department of Justice’s approval to file 44 criminal tax cases against three former DPWH officials linked to the flood control scandal.
The cases involve alleged tax evasion and underreporting of income, with combined tax liabilities exceeding P1.68 billion.
The BIR said its investigation uncovered major discrepancies between the officials’ declared income and actual expenditures.
Criminal charges may now be filed before the Court of Tax Appeals.
The three former officials also face separate graft complaints related to the flood control controversy.
