Over 10,000 liters of oil have been removed from the sunken MT Terranova off Bataan, with 2,500 liters collected just on Monday.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that Harbor Star Shipping Services Inc., the contracted salvor, has utilized an additional oil booster pump to improve efficiency and is conducting hot-tapping and siphoning operations.
Despite ongoing efforts, the PCG estimates that it will take around 73 days to extract all 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil from the tanker, which sank on July 25.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard is monitoring the shoreline for oil spill traces, though no significant spills were found.
The PCG’s BRP Malamawi and FES Challenger are conducting sea surveillance and diving operations to address the situation.
