Defending champion National University (NU) defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 7-2, in the UAAP Season 87 baseball tournament, improving to an 8-1 record and inching closer to securing the No. 1 seed.
NU’s victory was powered by pitcher Jherick Timban’s standout performance and the strong play of their second-string players.
NU coach Romar Landicho emphasized the importance of giving his reserves playing time to gain valuable experience for future matches, especially with the upcoming game against De La Salle University on April 23.
Ateneo, on the other hand, suffered its sixth consecutive loss, dropping to a 1-8 record.
In another game, the University of the Philippines (UP) kept its semifinal hopes alive with a 13-12 win over Adamson University, improving to a 4-5 record and joining Adamson in third place.
