NO CLEAR ANSWER FROM POLICE ON WHO ORDERED DUTERTE’S RELOCATION TO THE HAGUE

During a Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing, officials were unable to answer Sen. Ronald dela Rosa’s question regarding who ordered former president Rodrigo Duterte’s transfer to The Hague on March 11, 2025.

Maj Gen. Nicolas Torre III, head of the PNP-CIDG, confirmed receiving orders from PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil to serve the warrant for Duterte’s arrest and ensure his delivery to the escort team.

Lt. Gen. Anthony Alcantara of the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC) clarified that his role was only to coordinate the arrest as mandated by Interpol.

Marbil invoked “executive privilege” and refused to provide further details, while Torre challenged critics to take the matter to court.

Additionally, Senator Imee Marcos questioned Special Envoy Markus Lacanilao on the urgency of Duterte’s arrest, to which Lacanilao admitted he did not know why the arrest bypassed local courts.
