NEGROS OCCIDENTAL FACES RELOCATION CHALLENGES FOR DISPLACED FAMILIES

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed continued food assistance for Kanlaon Volcano evacuees still in temporary shelters, particularly those relocated to tent cities.

Over 2,400 displaced persons were moved from school-based shelters ahead of the school year’s opening, with some transferred to barangay covered courts or emergency tents in La Castellana.

The Office of Civil Defense deployed 180 shelter tents to accommodate affected families, while additional tents were set up in Villa Cana and other barangays.

Lacson emphasized that support will cease once evacuees return to or near their homes and resume normal routines.

He also acknowledged the challenge of current relocation areas, especially flood-prone Barangay Mansalanao, as the search for a permanent resettlement site continues.
