The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is probing around 20 vloggers accused of spreading fake news, with two already facing arrest warrants for possible cyber libel and inciting to sedition charges.
House officials condemned the surge of disinformation, particularly surrounding the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant for former president Rodrigo Duterte.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and NBI are coordinating efforts to track down fake news purveyors, with discussions on holding social media platforms accountable.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre said troll farms are under investigation for their role in disinformation campaigns.
Despite facing online attacks, Torre stated he would not press charges, calling it “part of the job.”
