The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has launched a nationwide probe into foreigners’ alleged fraudulent acquisition of birth certificates, passports, and other documents proving Filipino citizenship.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag ordered regional offices to investigate identity fraud and the illegal acquisition of property by foreign nationals.
The investigation will also target fixers, facilitators, and potentially corrupt officials involved in the scheme.
The NBI will prioritize cases linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators, scam hubs, money laundering, and other threats to national security.
Matibag said the probe aims to protect Filipino identity and institutions, not target foreigners or any particular race.
