The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has identified a person of interest in its investigation into the online death threats against Senator Risa Hontiveros.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the suspect’s social media posts are being examined by the bureau’s Cybercrime Division for forensic analysis.
He said the NBI is conducting a case buildup and may file charges with the Department of Justice if sufficient evidence is gathered.
Matibag described the growing number of online death threats as alarming, warning that they pose a threat to national security.
He emphasized that the investigation will be based strictly on evidence, legal procedures, and due process.
