Malacañang announced the government’s development of a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, focusing on protecting indigenous peoples (IPs) and their ancestral domains.
This initiative supports President Marcos’ commitment to human rights and inclusive development, as emphasized in his 2025 State of the Nation Address.
A first workshop held on July 15 gathered over 50 representatives from 25 government agencies to discuss the plan, highlighting international standards like the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
A second workshop will include input from Indigenous communities, civil society, and the private sector.
Led by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, a technical working group will draft the plan, which forms part of the broader Philippine Human Rights Plan 2024–2028, to safeguard Indigenous rights amid growing business activities.
