The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is considering narrowing the bicycle lane along Commonwealth Avenue to improve traffic flow.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes proposed reducing the bike lane from five meters to 2.5 meters, which would allow for two additional lanes for motorcycles.
During a dialogue with motorcycle groups and taxi companies, three other options were also discussed, including removing the bike lane, moving the motorcycle lane, and creating an exclusive lane for motorcycle taxis and delivery riders.
Artes expressed a preference for narrowing the bike lane to widen the motorcycle lane.
The proposal aims to better accommodate the growing number of motorcycles on the busy thoroughfare.
