In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion in Metro Manila, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) has announced a shift in working hours for all local government offices.
Effective April 15, government offices will operate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., instead of the traditional 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule.
The MMC cited the alignment of government and private sector working hours as a contributing factor to traffic congestion. San Juan City mayor Francis Zamora, president of the MMC, emphasized the need to test the feasibility of the new schedule.
The move comes as Metro Manila faces worsening traffic conditions, with data indicating it has the worst congestion globally.
The Management Association of the Philippines has called for government intervention, highlighting the significant economic costs of traffic congestion.
