MERIDA MAYOR EXPOSES P95-M FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT DECLARED ‘COMPLETE’ BUT STILL UNFINISHED

Merida Mayor Rolando Villasencio has questioned a P95-million flood control project in Barangay Puerto Bello, which the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) marked as 100% completed despite still being under construction.

The DPWH website listed the project as finished in July 2024, but Villasencio said work only began in August and remains ongoing.

During an inspection, DPWH representatives admitted the discrepancy and promised to correct the project’s status with the central office.

The mayor also flagged concerns over the early release of 70% of the project budget during the election ban period.

Villasencio further criticized a nearby pier project, labeled completed but left unusable due to poor planning and location.
