MAYON VOLCANO’S LAVA FLOWS REACH 3.8 KM, PHIVOLCS MAINTAINS ALERT LEVEL 3

Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 as lava flows have reached up to 3.8 kilometers from the summit, according to Phivolcs.

The agency reported lava flows in three gullies: Basud (3.8 km), Bonga (2.1 km), and Mi-isi (1.3 km), along with one volcanic earthquake and 375 rockfall events.

Crater glow was visible to the naked eye, and sulfur dioxide flux reached 1,271 tonnes per day.

Phivolcs also noted that the volcanic plume rose as high as 1,000 meters, with moderate emissions drifting southwest.

The agency reminded the public to avoid the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone due to ongoing risks from lava flows, rockfalls, and pyroclastic density currents.
