The Marikina local government is actively preparing for Severe Tropical Storm Crising by opening evacuation centers and deploying rescue boats in vulnerable areas.
Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro and Rep. Marcelino Teodoro monitored the Marikina River, which remains at a safe 14.3 meters, below the first alarm threshold of 15 meters.
The city’s alarm system will prompt voluntary and forced evacuations if the river rises to 16 and 18 meters, respectively.
Officials credited recent river slope protection, dredging, and widening efforts for improving water flow during heavy rains.
Emergency teams continue clearing waterways and monitoring weather conditions, with hotlines available for residents needing assistance.
