President Marcos has appointed Ariel Nepomuceno as the new commissioner of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), replacing Bienvenido Rubio without providing a reason for the leadership change.
Nepomuceno, a former defense undersecretary and Office of Civil Defense chief, previously held key positions at the BOC and brings a background in both government and private sector leadership.
His appointment marks the third BOC chief under Marcos. Rubio, whose resignation was previously declined by Marcos, exits amid the agency’s revenue challenges, including a 7% drop in May collections.
Nepomuceno now faces the task of revitalizing BOC’s performance after its annual revenue target was cut by P74 billion.
