President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of the rehabilitated Mahayag Dam in Zamboanga del Sur, a five-decade-old irrigation structure originally built in 1967.
The dam, part of the Salug River Irrigation System, serves over 3,100 farmers and irrigates more than 8,100 hectares of farmland, producing around 25 million kilograms of rice annually.
It was heavily damaged by floods in 2022–2023, prompting a P450-million rehabilitation funded by the OCD and NDRRMC.
Marcos also turned over 20 solar-powered pump irrigation projects to 635 farmers, providing clean, affordable energy for local irrigation.
The President said these initiatives aim to boost food security, improve livelihoods, and strengthen climate resilience in the province.
