President Marcos praised the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for its record-breaking collection of P931.046 billion ($17 billion) in 2024, marking the highest in the agency’s history, a P40 billion increase from 2023.
He highlighted the potential uses of the funds, including educational resources and scholarships for students, emphasizing the positive impact of proper tariff collection.
The President also commended the BOC’s efforts in combating smuggling, citing the seizure of over P85 billion worth of illegal goods, including vape products and counterfeit items.
Marcos further praised the agency for protecting local farmers from illegal agricultural imports and distributing recovered smuggled goods to marginalized communities.
Lastly, he encouraged BOC personnel to maintain integrity and prioritize public interest to foster trust and improve tax compliance.
