The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged all local government units (LGUs) to shift toward cashless transactions for collecting taxes, fees, and other government charges.
In a memorandum circular released on May 17, the DILG encouraged LGUs to use secure and accessible digital payment platforms in line with Executive Order No. 170, s. 2022.
The move supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s digital transformation agenda and aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and convenience for the public.
LGUs are also advised to follow national guidelines on payment systems, data privacy, and electronic invoicing while still accommodating traditional payment methods.
Additionally, the DILG called on LGUs to enact local policies to promote the full adoption of cashless payments.
