A lawyer for the second impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte warned the public to watch for possible “diversionary tactics” during the proceedings.
Dino de Leon claimed Duterte and her supporters might use the current economic crisis and Middle East tensions to avoid questions about her bank accounts.
He also suggested that her 2028 presidential bid announcement was intended to portray the impeachment as “politicking” and to intimidate lawmakers.
The House justice committee may summon Duterte’s bank records to clarify discrepancies in her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.
Duterte has described the impeachment as politically motivated, and it remains uncertain if she will attend the next hearing scheduled for March 25.
